The Karnataka government would do everything within its means to help the Information Technology industry "grow, develop and flourish", Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said on Thursday, in an effort to assuage industry's concerned over the city's infrastructure.
He said over the last one year, there has been lot of talks about the state of infrastructure in Bangalore, the future of the city and IT in Bangalore.
"Let me assure that our Government is clear in its agenda. We want the IT industry and the Brand Bangalore to grow, develop and flourish. Our government will do everything within its means for this," Kumaraswamy said.
Speaking at the inaugural function of an information and communication technology conference, organised by the World Customs Organisation, he said, "it is a matter of great pride and joy for us that Infosys, Wipro ad several other companies that took birth and blossomed in Karnataka have expanded globally."
Some of these companies are also expanding their operations in other cities in India. "I welcome the growth of IT industry throughout the country and I would like Karnataka to contribute to the future growth of IT industry in the same measure as it has done in the past."
Kumaraswamy said his government was taking necessary action to improve Bangalore's infrastructure, adding that unfortunately, the city's infrastructure had been equated with problems associated with its roads and excess traffic.
"In some of the other areas, Bangalore's infrastructure is more than adequate. In Bangalore, we have spent more than Rs 500 crore on improving electricity distribution. The line losses in Bangalore are less than 10 per cent and the reliability factor of power supply is 99.01 per cent. I believe no other metropolitan city in the country can compete with these figures," Kumaraswamy said.

According to him, the magnitude of the traffic problem in Bangalore can be gauged from the fact that almost 1000 vehicles are being registered in the city everyday.
He said the Government would come out with a plan during the next one month to substantially improve the public transport system in the city.
