Nirmala Vankatesh, the sacked member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), lashed out at the central government on Monday, terming her removal a "political conspiracy".

"It is a political conspiracy against me," Vankatesh told reporters in Bangalore.

Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhury had sacked Vankatesh on Friday for allegedly failing to conduct an unbiased enquiry into the attacks on women at a Mangalore pub Jan 24 by the activists of a fringe rightwing Hindu group, Sri Ram Sene.
