IT@school project, a Kerala government initiative to impart IT education in schools, has developed a Resource DVD to distribute among high school teachers to ensure a complete Information and Communication Technology (ICT) enabled educational system.
The Resource DVD, considered to be first of its kind in the country, comprises of various tools, software and features which were in line with the new ICT syllabus,IT@School Project Executive Director K Anvar Sadath told PTI here.
The Resource DVD, prepard entirely on Free Software, could be used in any computer or Laptop, would be distributed to 60,000 high school teachers in the state, he said.
'Through the release of the Resource DVD to all high school teachers and empowering them with specific ICT skills, it was aimed to implement a complete ICT enabled learning process at all classrooms in the state, Sadath said.
The ICT enabled process which was piloted two years back has become a success, with this year's Eighth Standard text book being entirely based on ICT enabled education, he said.
The teachers had also been given direction to use this technology while teaching their subjects also, thereby enabling the new ICT STDE textbok to be a reference book for teachers in this regard, he said.

{{/usCountry}}The teachers would have complete freedom to copy, edit and re-distribute the contents in the Resource DVD, he said.
Some of the special features in the DVD include introduction to office packages, paintinf software, speecial features on presentation software, tools for science, mathematics and social science, Sadath said.
To add further more on the features of the DVD, it also includes the PDF versions of various textbooks, latest versions of free application softwares.
The Resource DVD with a total capacity of 8GB would include the contents equivalent to that of 12 CDs. With an inbuilt auto-run facility, the DVD would facilitate the feel of an Online Software, he added.
