The state BJP has sent a list of 25 leaders of national repute to the high command with a request that they visit the state for campaigning.
Hari Om, political adviser to state president and BJP candidate from Jammu-Poonch constituency Jugal Kishore Sharma, said the list had been sent to Delhi and as soon as the Election Commission announced the final list for Jammu-Poonch, the national party leaders would frequent Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions for campaigning.
"The party has sent the list to the high command, which has names of prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, national party president Rajnath Singh, leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha national president Anurag Thakur, who are expected to visit the state to campaign for party candidates," said Hari Om.
He said Navjot Singh Siddhu, Smriti Irani and Vinod Khanna would also visit the state to support party candidates.
Jammu-Poonch goes to polls on April 10 while Doda-Udhampur, from where Jitender Singh is contesting, will go to polls on April 17.
While there are great expectations from Modi's possible visit to Kashmir, sources in the party say that owing to Modi's preoccupation elsewhere, that might not come through.
Sources say despite the list requesting the presence of national leaders, the state may see only a handful of national leaders as the party at the national level is focused more on central India, Punjab and eastern states.
