Three policemen, including a special house officer, and a taxi driver were injured after suspected militants opened fire on a police checkpost in Pattan area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Friday night.
"Around 9:15pm, a police party at Mirgund in Pattan signalled a cab to stop but two militants inside the vehicle started firing, which was retaliated," a police official said.
The official said the militants managed taking advantage of darkness.
The three injured people have been shifted to a hospital for treatment, he said. An alert has been issued in Pattan and adjoining areas to track down the militants.

The attack came close on the heels of a daring siege in Punjab's Gurdaspur. Seven people, including four policemen, were killed in the Gurdaspur assault after gunmen believed to be from Pakistan targeted a police station. The attackers were shot dead after an 11-hour gunfight.
