With municipal elections scheduled to be held in May or June, poll activity has begun to pick up pace in the city.
Leading the pack is residents’ body Joint Action Forum of RWAs (Jafra) that has announced its first candidate, Capt (retd) Rampal Yadav, who would contest from ward no. 32 (Sector 56 area). Jafra chairman Col (retd) Ratan Singh is likely to contest for the post of mayor.
A resident of Jalvayu Towers in Sector 56, Yadav took out a procession in the city with hundreds of supporters on Thursday. Yadav, who lives in the city with his wife and daughter, joined the Indian Army in 1995 in the infantry division and also fought the Kargil war.
“I was awarded the gallantry award for my contribution in the Kargil war. I took voluntary retirement after five years in the Short Service Commission. Now I want to work for the society,” he said.
Meanwhile, Col Singh said, “We have plans to field candidates for about 15 wards, not for all 35. We are looking for people with a clean image. We do not want to field candidates with political ambitions.”
