The jailbreak was discovered on Sunday and 11 policemen have been suspended. Equipped with a rope, a bamboo pole and a bed-sheet, wearing a police uniform, Jaishankar, who is wanted in three states in more than 20 cases, scaled the high security inner and outer northern periphery wall with electrical fencing.

He had rubber gloves to avoid electrification, but he is believed to have sustained injuries from stepping on scattered shards of glass.

Apart from sounding high alert on the entry and exit points of Bengaluru city, the city police are scouring for hotels, lodges and isolated places where he could have taken shelter. Given the fact that he has sustained severe injuries during escape, police have alerted hospital, clinics and even quacks operating in and around the city.

“We have suspended 11 officials who were on the duty. We have also ordered a probe,” said K V Gagandeep, additional director general of police (prisons).
