Finance minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday alleged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was "immature" and his party had used "lung power" to block Parliament because it didn't want the country to grow.
"When seniority is thrust on you, a certain level of maturity is required. The more Rahul Gandhi grows, more immature he gets," said Jaitley at a press conference in Delhi after Parliament's monsoon session ended without without debating major bills like the goods and services tax (GST).
Jaitley, however, said the government has still kept the option of reconvening the session to pass the GST bill. "We have not taken any decision as yet as to when to prorogue the session," he said.
"The Congress party's real intent was to not let the economy grow; they used lung power to try and halt progress," said Jaitley. The delay in the passage of the GST bill will make it tougher for the government to meet a self-imposed deadline of next April for its launch.
