Pakistan Rangers on Friday night started unprovoked firing on the international border in Samba district of Jammu region, targeting BSF border posts, an official said.
According to the BSF official, Pakistan ranger fired mortar shells also.
The firing started at about 8.30pm on Friday evening and continued till 2am early Saturday morning. The official said nine posts of the BSF were targetted by the Pakistan Rangers.
“Pak Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing on BSF posts along IB in Samba sector from 2025 hours last night”, a BSF officer said, adding BSF troops carried out effective retaliation.
On Friday evening one person had died and two other were injured in Samba sector.
“One of the injured has succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital. The other injured are undergoing treatment at district hospital Samba. We are yet to ascertain the identity of the deceased,” SSP Samba Joginder Singh told PTI. The firing had then stopped at about 5.30 pm and resumed shortly after.
It was the first incident of firing along the international border after DG level talks between BSF and Rangers at New Delhi in September to diffuse the tension.
