The IT and Communications Minister was reported to have caused the nation huge losses by adopting a "defective policy for airwave spectrum allotment," she said in a statement in Chennai.

"If media reports are to be believed, Raja's misdemeanours have been referred to the CBI by Central Vigilance Commission for investigation. If a fair probe is to take place, Raja should be removed from Union Minister's post now," she said.

"Only if that is done, Manmohan Singh will not only be doing the right thing but will also be seen as being fair and above board," she said.

Jaya also asked the Prime Minister to "rein in " another DMK Union Minister M K Alagiri whose office reportedly wrote to the Indian envoy to Uzbekistan seeking help for businessmen visiting that country.

Prime Minister Singh should "rein in his errant cabinet colleague (Alagiri) immediately," she said.
