Accusing the Congress-led UPA of not living up to its 'aam admi' (common man) slogan, the JD(U) on Monday said it would undertake a countrywide campaign to protest the 'anti-poor' and 'anti-farmer' policies of the government and also raise the issue in the coming session of Parliament.
"Congress came to power with the slogan of 'Congress ka haath aam admi ke saath' (Congress' hand is with the common man), but the government has been pursuing policies that are anti-poor and the problems of inflation and corruption have assumed mammoth proportions," JD(U) President Sharad Yadav said addressing a 'dharna' organised by the party in New Delhi.
The JD(U) demonstration aimed at highlighting the issues of inflation and the alleged neglect of farmers and labourers under UPA rule.
"In the last two years since the Manmohan Singh government came to power inflation has risen significantly and the common man is struggling to make ends meet," he charged.
Yadav strongly opposed the government's decision to import wheat, saying, "On the one hand our farmers are committing suicide and on the other hand the government is making life more difficult for them by importing wheat."
"JD(U) will carry out a nationwide campaign against the wrong policies of the coalition government at the Centre and we will also raise these issues in the coming session of Parliament," he said.
