Jeev Milkha Singh ended his seven-year title drought with a magnificent win under trying conditions at the Volvo China Open golf championship on Sunday.
The 34-year-old Chandigarh golfer, who last won in 1999, held his nerve in the crucial stages to card a one-under 71 in the final round and clinch the title by one stroke at the Hong Hua International Golf Club.
It was also Jeev's first win on the European Tour.
Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano bogeyed his final hole to finish behind the Indian. "I wanted no heroics, I just wanted to win this one badly," said Jeev.
"So when I knew I was two-up I was not going to go for the flag. I just put the ball onto the right (the fat of the green) and was happy with a bogey that gave me a win.
"I waited for too long for this. It is a big relief," said Jeev, who becomes only the second Indian after Arjun Atwal to win on the European Tour.
It is Jeev's fifth win on Asian Tour and his purse of $300,000 takes him to the top of the UBS Order of Merit.
Amongst the other Indians, Amandeep Johl (69) was 20th with two-under 286, Harmeet Kahlon (76) was 54th with six-over 294 and Rahil Gangjee (75) was 60th with seven-over 295.
