At least nine persons, including four policemen, were injured as a demonstration demanding return of the mortal remains of a JKLF leader hanged in Delhi's Tihar Jail about 25 years ago, turned violent on Wednesday.
A large number of youths assembled at Maisuma near the JKLF headquarters here and hurled stones at police and paramilitary personnel, demanding return of mortal remains of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, who was executed on this day in 1984, official sources said.
Raising pro-freedom slogans, the youths resorted to stone-pelting when police stopped them from taking out a march in support of their demand.
Security persons fired teargas shells and used batons to disperse the protesters. The clash left four policemen and five protesters injured.
Another group of angry youth indulged in stone-pelting at Baramulla district headquarters in North Kashmir. No one was, however, injured in the clash. Incidents of stone-pelting were reported from several parts of Srinagar, including Natipora, Safakadal and Qammerwari this morning, sources said.
