After the creation of a separate state of Telangana, the Jammu State Morcha (JSM) on Thursday said that it would revive its campaign seeking statehood for Jammu.
For the past more than a decade, the JSM has been raising the demand on the ground that Jammu's development was only possible after state was carved for the region. "A separate state for Jammu is our long-standing demand. The JSM will revive its campaign for the trifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir on regional basis," JSM president Prof Virender Gupta said.
On the road map for the campaign, Gupta said: "The JSM will strengthen its network and take along other groups, including political and non-political organisations, to support the cause. In the coming days, the JSM will initiate a publicity campaign on the issue and garner people's support."
The JSM president said the demand for the trifurcation of the state into Jammu, Kashmir as separate states and Ladakh as union territory (UT) was genuine. "Both Valley and Jammu province have separate infrastructures needed for the creation of new states. Both have separate secretariat buildings and other government offices."
There would be no dispute on the location of capital as both were capitals of present Jammu and Kashmir, Prof Gupta said, adding that there would be no dispute on the river water among Jammu, Kashmir and proposed UT Ladakh.
"The trifurcation or reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir is in the national interest as well as in the interest of all three regions of the state. It will free Jammu and Ladakh from the Kashmiri dominance. The reorganisation will go a long way in solving the Kashmir imbroglio," the JSM president added.
