The 95-year-old former chief minister suffered minor injury in his left leg after a fall in the toilet, his personal assistant Joykrishna Ghosh told PTI.

"Basu has been examined by his doctor who has certified that he is all right and there is no cause for worry,"he said.

For the first time in his life, Basu, who was the West Bengal chief minister for 23 years, was unable to vote owing to his poor health conditions.

Ghosh said, "His physical condition did not permit it."

Basu was hospitalised last September after he injured his forehead
also from a fall in the toilet.

Subsequently, medical tests had revealed clots in his brain, which required surgery.

But the doctors did not undertake surgery in view of his advanced age and physical condition.
