After winning accolades for her bold performance in Dev D, Kalki Koelchin is teaming up with her director-boyfriend Anurag Kashyap once again for the film Happy Ending.
“It’s a 90-minute film. There will be other characters but the story is about me. And no, it is not similar to 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days. It’s a completely new story. It will just be shot in the same style,” she says adding, “It’s not coming up anytime soon. Anurag has a couple of films lined up. He will do Happy Ending when he has time, aaram se. But it shouldn’t be long.”
She makes sure to assert that she keeps her personal and professional life separate. “Anurag has cast me not because I am his girlfriend but because I genuinely fit the part. It’s a not a part that anybody can play. Casting me was his idea. He said, ‘I have a role in a film and it fits you perfectly’.”
While she is happy to be directed by her boyfriend, Kalki sounds a bit apprehensive too. “I am happy but I am a little nervous as well because I don’t want our relationship to get in the way of our work. But we are both pretty objective when it comes to our work,” she says.
Asked if she has received any other Bollywood offer beside Happy Ending, the Dev D actress states, “I have had some offers. But I am waiting for something that suits me. Obviously, people will stereotype me because I look different. But I am just waiting for something good.”
On the other hand, Kalki’s Dev D co-star Mahie Gill has been quite busy — she recently did a cameo in Gulaal and has two more films in her kitty. Ask Kalki if she feels that Mahie has benefited more from the film and she quips, “I think Mahie has been in the industry longer. She has done Punjabi films. She is perfect for Bollywood because of the way she looks and everything. I am not the conventional looking girl. So for me, roles will come slowly, but it will happen. I have got interesting responses to my performance in Dev D.”
