The 25-year-old leggie played for the county in 2004 and returned the following season. While Pakistan's tour of England this summer means he will not feature for Essex this year, the leggie will be back to the county next year.

Essex Chief Executive David East said in a statement, "We are delighted to announce that Danish Kaneria has signed a one-year agreement to re-join Essex in 2007, subject to the approval of the Pakistan Cricket Board."

"His availability looks very good for next year - judging by the way Pakistan's fixtures seem to be panning out - and we will be delighted to have him back."

"Danish is a world-class cricketer, there is no doubt about it, and the advantage of having him in your side is that he can have success on any wicket - as he has proved all around the world," he said.

"It gives us an enormous advantage to have him in our side. At the start of the season, where other spinners will possibly struggle, he actually does take wickets and then as the wickets start to turn he becomes even more formidable."

Kaneria has taken 95 first-class wickets in 18 matches for Essex at an average of 28.
