Kashmiri Pandits, resettled in the Kashmir Valley, have extended financial help to their Muslim brethren. A small group of the Kashmiri Panditscommunity has extended help to the majority community.
The Kashmiri Pandits staying in the Sheikh Pora colony, made under the PM special package in Budgam district, have given a financial assistance of Rs 10,000 at the local relief camp.
“We could have given more, but we didn’t have any cash as the ATMs are not working. But, we would send more when the banks will be opened,” said Neelam Safaya, a government teacher.
The Kashmiri Pandits had migrated from the Valley in 1989 when their selective killings started in the Valley. In the Sheik Pora complex, 245 Kashmiri Pandits families are staying. Under the 2010 PM package, the KPs were given government jobs in Kashmir with a rider that they won’t seek transfer outside the Kashmir Valley.
Even though Budgam district was not affected and the KP complex was not flooded, the KP employees received calls from their Muslim colleagues who even came to their homes with essential commodities. Neelam said her colleagues, who are all Muslims, came to her home many times extending every possible help. In her adjoining flat lives Monika and Binu Bhat, both teachers. About three days back, their Muslim colleagues came with ration, milk and commodities.
“She was overwhelmed by this gesture,” told Neelam, as Monika was not at home. There is a shortage of essential commodities as most of the shops are closed.

{{/usCountry}}In Jawahar Nagar, Indira Nagar and Karan Nagar, where 200 KP families are staying, they were rescued and provided relief by their Muslim neighbours. The KPs called up their colleagues when the city was flooded.
