Krishnamurthy, who has sung in more than 250 Indian movies since 1980 said present-day film songs don't have the resonance they used to.

"I do sing for films but it is not so regular," she told reporters Thursday, during a visit to the north Indian city of Lucknow. "I do not relish singing film songs any more." Her second pop album Dil Ki Awaaz, or Sound of the Heart, is due to be released soon.

Krishnamurthy's more recent work as a playback singer Bollywood jargon for the voice behind a lip-syncing actor includes such movies as Mangal Pandey: The Rising and Kuch Na Kaho, or Don't Say a Word.

"Modern-day music directors should ponder why their songs do not have the same recall value as compared to those of the greats," she said.
