The chief minister suffered two minor cuts on his forehead in the attack. Though doctors advised a complete checkup he refused and attended the official function as slated. His official vehicle was also damaged in the attack. The chief minister was in Kannur to attend the closing ceremony of the state police sports meet. The attack is being viewed as a serious security lapse.

For last two months CPM-led LDF workers have been demanding his resignation for his alleged involvement in solar scam. A con-woman had cheated many promising them imported solar panels with the help of some staff members of the chief minister’s office. Though he had sacked three staff members, opposition allege that chief minister was aware of cheating.

However the CPM has denied any role in the attack. “It was a drama enacted by Congress workers to get some sympathy,” said DYFI (CPM youth outfit) leader M Shameer. Police have arrested five, all CPM workers, in this regard.
