Kerala Govt lab tests find no pesticide contents in Coke

There was no trace of toxic contents in Coke samples tested at a Govt lab, a top official said.

There was no trace of toxic substances and pesticide contents in Coca Cola samples tested at the Government Analytical Laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram, according to Kerala Health Director Dr VK Rajan.

An official release quoting Rajan on Monday said there was no trace of cadmium in the samples and the content of lead was below the permissible level.

The result also showed that the soft drink was free from pesticide elements like BHC, DDT, malatheon, paratheon, carbofuran and carboril, release said.

In one batch of tested samples, there was no trace of lead at all. In two other lots, the lead content was 0.028ppm and 0.006ppm respectively against the permissible level of 10ppm, the release said.

The tests were conducted using equipment like HPLC, chromatograph and atomic absorption spectrophotometer.

Three lots were collected for tests by food inspectors from different parts of the state.
