More than 24 villages in Chamoli district and some adjoining areas of the Kumaon division have lost connection with the main road as most of the pedestrian bridges have collapsed.

More than 60 families have taken shelter in makeshift tents in the jungles and about 6,000 people are facing an acute shortage of foodgrain and other essential commodities.

Sushil Rawat, a social worker of the area, told HT that awans of the Shasastra Seema Bal brought about 700 packets of food items, which would last not more than two days.
