A mother hacked her three daughters to death with an axe in Jharkhand's Latehar on Saturday night and then tried to commit suicide by consuming poison.

The 40-year-old mother, identified as Asha Devi, is undergoing treatment at Manika hospital. Police have yet to ascertain the motive behind the killings.

Police have launched a probe into the incident. Authorities suspect a family feud as the cause. The incident took place at Jaganhakhad village.
Latehar superintendent of police Anup Birthare said: "The reason is not clear but it may be linked with family dispute. The accused is being treated."
The victims were: 13-year-old Rina Kumari, 10-year-old Sita Kumari and five-year-old Manisha Kumari.
