Months after launching a Facebook page of its traffic wing, the Gurgaon police will now join the social networking website with a new profile to add more “friends” to curb crime in the city.
Besides creating a Facebook page, the police will also upgrade its official website to make it more people-friendly, a senior official said.
“We are going to upgrade Gurgaon police website soon. The site will be more user-friendly. A dedicated team is working on it and it will be launched within two months,” said the joint commissioner of police Alok Mittal.
“After the successful experiment of the traffic police, we want to make people aware about the police system and also need their help to counter the crime,” Mittal said.
He said the report that the city police website is not regularly updated was not true.
Mittal said the new website will be more attractive and help in making the system more transparent and accountable through the social networking sites. Recently, a head constable of Gurgaon traffic police was suspended after a Facebook user put up a video showing him demanding R1,000 as bribe.
The traffic police Facebook page has 2,499 followers.
