The Dadar Government Railway Police (GRP) said the unidentified man walked away with the month-old infant on Saturday morning even as a constable from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) was watching the act live on the CCTV monitor. Surprisingly, he did not suspect anything amiss and the kidnapper walked away with the child.
Not just that. GRP constables were seated a few metres from spot where the kidnapping took place, yet they too failed to notice or suspect anything.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP), GRP (Central Railway) GS Bhandare admitted to the lapses and ordered an internal inquiry to fix responsibility. “Four GRP constables were patrolling the area, yet the man managed to take the child. It is human error and negligence on the part of the GRP constables. An internal inquiry will be conducted,” Bhandare said.
A senior RPF officer admitted that only one RPF officer monitors CCTV footage at Dadar station. The officer, who requested anonymity, said it was not possible for the RPF to monitor footage efficiently, as
their current does not allow them to spare a policeman for the purpose.
The Dadar GRP said the man who picked up and walked away with the month-old infant on Saturday, had loitered around the area for two whole hours before picking up the child. Police also said he appeared to be in his thirties in the CCTV footage.

{{/usCountry}}GRP officers said the accused conducted a recce of the area around 6am on Saturday at platform 6 near the booking counter. He had earlier spotted the woman, Parveen Shaikh, 33, sleeping with her month-old son, Sallu and three-year-old daughter, Sajida.
