With the main task of the elections over, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Saturday quickly wrapped up the formality of electing its leader Mayawati as its candidate for the post of chief minister.
Mayawati will be sworn in on Sunday. She called on governor TV Rajeshwar soon after the meeting of her party legislators and staked claim. She has 206 MLAs. She was with the governor for 45 minutes but it was not immediately known if they discussed the Taj Corridor case. Sending a file on the issue to the governor was among the last few administrative actions of the outgoing chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has sought the governor’s permission to prosecute Mayawati and her close aide Naseemuddin Siddiqui in the case.
Party officials refused to say anything on the issue. But they were more than forthcoming on Mayawati’s plans for some of the pet projects of her predecessor.
The BSP leader’s key political advisors told the Hindustan Times that projects likely to be reviewed include the Lucknow Industrial Development Authority and the proposed Special Economic Zones at Bhadohi (Varanasi) and Kanpur, the expansion of Greater Noida Phase-II, which involved setting up of a 'warehousing zone', besides a total of 14 SEZ proposals pending clearance by the Board of Approvals in the Union Ministry of Commerce.

{{/usCountry}}At the BSP meeting, Mayawati asked legislators to be on their best behaviour. “You must remember that the media is quite vigilant and you should be extremely careful in their public behaviour,” she said.
Mayawati told her legislators that one of the factors that led to the defeat of the Samajwadi Party was that “their legislators used to behave like goondas”.
