The police are tight-lipped about the cause of Manish Kumar’s (22) death and are waiting for the post-mortem and forensic reports. Initial investigations, however, point to suicide.

Hundreds of students protested outside MMG hospital on Monday against some reports claiming that Kumar had committed suicide due to a failed love affair.

Kumar’s family and college faculty members denied this possibility. “He was not involved in any kind of a love affair. He was a very devoted student and it is wrong to cast these aspersions,” said Arvind Singh, head of management studies at RKGIT.

His roommate and friends rushed Kumar to Gargi hospital in Ghaziabad. Later, they informed the police who took Kumar to the district hospital but he reportedly died before treatment could be provided.

“The cause of death is not known yet,” said A.K. Awasthi, the investigating officer.
