In 2000 civic elections, Dr Gupta lost to the BJP candidate Dr S C Rai by a margin of about 13,000 votes. Dr Rai, whom she addresses as her senior in medical profession, had polled about 2.65 lakh votes then. “In Lok Sbha, it was only me whose deposit was not forfeited among the losers,” she claims and adds even that was a good experience. I had polled over 1 lakh votes in the previous Lok Sabha elections against Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Dr Gupta claims that she had solidified her vote bank and feels elated that she was the most potential women candidate for the post of Lucknow Mayor. “The party has given its full support to me in my campaign, and a range of leaders have been helping me in the endeavour,” she adds.

As regards converting Lucknow into Shanghai, as claimed by politicians, Dr Gupta says Lucknow has its own distinct character. It has no parallel any part of the world. “Let us make Lucknow a place to live,” she adds.
