A day after Uttar Pradesh minister for urban development Mohd Azam Khan said that "grave bunglings" had taken place in the allotment of Kanshiram Awas residences in the state and "undesirable" persons had occupied the flats meant for the poor, the Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate, MKS Sundaram ordered an inquiry.
An elderly woman Neelam, a resident of sector 82, on Monday met the DM and complained that though she had applied for a house under the scheme but her application was rejected. She told the DM that her husband had died and her 11-year-old is dependent on her. The DM immediately ordered an inquiry into the matter.
Azam Khan has also said "undesirable and undeserving occupants of Kashiram Awas have given those flats on rent to other inhabitants. Inquiring authorities will "delve deep into the bungling" and those found to have flouted norms will have to vacate, he said.
Last year, the Gautam Budh Nagar district administration sealed 11 flats built in Noida’s sector 45 under Kanshi Ram Shehri Gharib Awas Yojna following detection of irregularities in allotment. Later eight fresh complaints surfaced. The complaints say one flat has been allotted to more than one person. Some flats have been allotted to people “who are not actually poor.” A team headed by the chief development officer (CDO) is probing the matter.
Of the 1,000 flats constructed in the district at two locations, 500 were allotted in June last year. In October, another 500 flats were allotted. The fresh complaints pertain to the new allotments.

The project aims at providing urban poor with low-cost homes. But it has been alleged some of the flats have been allotted to people, who already own landed property in the city. Despite indications of their involvement, action has not been taken against any government employees or racketeers.
The administration has constructed 500 houses each in Noida (Sector 45) and Greater Noida (Ghodi Bachheda). During the crackdown last year, the administration has found one person in possession of more than one unit. In some cases, unauthorised persons were found to have grabbed houses. Some allottees were also found to have either sold their units or rented them.
