MNNIT gears up for Gnosiomania

Unique and primordially the result of creative minds of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) students, the preparation for the three-day nationally acclaimed annual quiz competition is in full swing at the Deemed University.

Conceptualised by the students in 2003, the Institute hosted the first ever national quiz in 2004 with subtle success and which finally culminated into a national event in the subsequent year ie in 2005, proudly making it one of the biggest quiz festivals conducted by a college in the country.

"For both the years, participants from various IITs, IIMs, RECs and host of other colleges were left totally impressed with the awe-inspiring acumen of Parnab Mukherjee who hosted this mega event for two consecutive years.

Taking the lead, this year we are attempting to make it an even bigger and grander affair with all efforts to rope in competitors from various SAARC countries, not to mention the increased aggressive strategy to involve ever increasing participation from real corporate sector including people working for various industries," informed Swetank Shekhar, a BTech (Computer Science)-III student who is also the general secretary of the Gnosiomania-2k6 organising committee.

He said that talks are at an advanced level for deciding the host for this year with prospective Quiz Masters like Barry O'Brien, S Subramanyan and of course everyone's favourite, Parnab Mukherjee in the running.

"Various quizzes encompassing sectors like auto, business, sports, science and technology, music and film industry are scheduled to be held on the campus between March 3 and March 5 during the competition. Various quizzes planned for the contest include Auto quiz, Corporate quiz, Sportainment quiz, General quiz, Sci-Tech quiz, Motley, Passwords and Treasure Hunt among others," he said.

Swetank informed that besides these, various unofficial events like Antakshari, Cricket quiz, Literary quiz among others are also scheduled to be held in-between all the formal quiz events. "An open panel discussion is also in the pipeline. Possibility of organising a few seminars on related topics during this three-day quizzing carnival is also there and with proper planning we may also have quite a number of surprises regarding the content and span of both participation and questions," he added.

Several prizes for main and subsidiary quizzes have been finalised besides custom designed valuable certificates to give this entire event a Midas-Touch.

"Once again the entire responsibility of organising this gala event has been handed over to the students themselves with college administration playing the part of resource allocator. Sending brochures and invitations to various colleges and companies have already commenced.

A new website with a fresh look has been developed by the students for the various on-line activities. A number of committees have also been formed in order to ensure proper structuring and management of all the pre-event background work including invitation, civil maintenance, food and lodging etc," Swetank said.

Proper arrangements for the accommodation of outside participants are being made.

As a Prologue, MNNIT is also going to start a weekly on-line quiz on the website www.mnnitquizfest.net.

"Interested participants can test their acumen after registering at the site and can also keep track of their overall scores and ranks. Assured lucrative gifts for on-line participants have been decided.

Weekly quiz "Champions Series Quizzes" for all the college students has also seen the light of the dawn," he said.
