The tiny Balkan State of Montenegro is all set to become the 192nd member of the United Nations.
The Security Council on Thursday recommended its admission to the world body and the General Assembly is set to meet on Wednesday to admit Montenegro, which broke away from Serbia on June 3.
In a referendum on May 21, Montenegro voted to become independent from Serbia.
The 15-member Council adopted the resolution endorsing its application for admission by consensus and without vote.
"We look forward to the Republic of Montenegro join us as a member of the United Nations and to work closely with its representatives," said Per Stig Moeller, Foreign Minister of Denmark, which holds the Security Council's presidency for the month of June.
The last country to join the UN was Timor-Leste, which became the 191st UN Member State on September 27, 2002.
