To commemorate the golden jubilee of the 1965 Indo-Pak war, minister of state in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh on Sunday announced the setting up of a 'war memorial' from his MPLAD fund in the town of Reasi. Jitendra is a member of Parliament from Doda-Udhampur constituency.
A 5-kanal plot has been earmarked for the memorial at a central location opposite the mini-secretariat and the Reasi deputy commissioner's office complex, the press note issued by the minister's office added.
The highlight of the War Memorial would be a monumental 1965 Army Battle Tank captured from the Pakistan forces and a spacious Park surrounding the platform on which the vestige tank will be placed.
The money will be released from the second installment of Member Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund, of which `2.5 crore had been recently received.
"The war of 1965 was fought, to a large extent, along the borders of J&K and marked a firm reiteration of not only the bravery and courage of the Indian forces but also the patriotic
commitment of people in this border state," the release adds, quoting the minister.
Now, in the current times, when Pakistan continues with its mischief in the state, Singh added that it was the responsibility of the earlier generation which was a witness to 1965 war to acquaint the younger generation about the rich legacy and commitment they exhibited.
