Hours before the three-judge HC bench on Ayodhya title suits delivers its verdict on Friday, special prayers would be offered at all the mosques in the state, to pray for peace, after the verdict. “We would be offering special prayers along with our regular Friday prayers,” said Khalid Rasheed, naib imam, Eidgah, Lucknow.
The cleric was speaking at a conference of religious leaders and intellectuals at the Press Club. The conference was organized to appeal to the people to maintain peace exercise restraint after the verdict.
The cleric said, “We are also issuing appeals to the people, not to express their happiness at the verdict. By coming out on the streets, distributing sweets or bursting crackers, one might provoke the other community.”
Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad said, “Rationality has to win over emotions. We are committed to maintaining peace and we would agree to the verdict, whatever that might be.”
Maulana Syed Mohammad Kachauchvi said, “We have full faith in the courts. Either party, which doesn’t find the High Court verdict to its liking, would be free to move to the Supreme Court.” Maulana Hamidul Hasan said, “All mosques and temples give the message of peace. India is the land of Sufis and saints.
None should be allowed to take the law in their hands after the verdict.” Rajendra Singh Bagga, the president of the Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee, Anis Ansari, Vice-Chancellor of Arabic-Persian University, ex-LU V-C Prof RR Verma who now runs a NGO, ex-LU professor Ramesh Dixit, all were unanimous that the “mischief mongers” should be dealt with an iron hand.
