THE ENTIRE premises of Dastur Marriage Garden was sealed the previous evening due to inordinate delay in payment of electricity dues amounting to Rs 5.21 lakh.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Superintending Engineer Indore, KS Vyas said that the property of the Garden at Scheme number 71 has been attached since the consumer had not made payment even six months after the connection was severed.
He added that this action was taken under Dues Recovery Act, 2003, which empowers the tehsildar, who is an employee of the Electricity Distribution Company and is an engineer, to attach property in such cases.
He further said that if payment is not made for another month then the due amount would be recovered by auctioning the property. However, in case the amount is paid the property would be handed back to the consumer.
It is pertinent to mention here that large amount of arrears are due on the consumers of City and they are reluctant to pay these arrears even after electricity connection is disconnected. The Company was recovering dues till date in the City but now to facilitate the recovery it has decided to get this job done by private agency and tenders for the same have been floated.
