CHIEF MINISTER Mulayam Singh Yadav is quite disillusioned with party leaders, including ministers and MLAs. He has, therefore, fallen back on frontal organisations for victory in the next assembly elections.
After a two-day conference of panchayat representatives and SP women’s wing, Yadav has summoned a meeting of four youth wings on May 30 to gear up the party at the lower level.
The chief minister repeatedly expressed his concern over indulgence of party leaders in lavish life styles. Dissatisfied with district leaders, the party has planned to involve frontal organisations under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav in electioneering.
The party hopes to offset the anti-incumbency factor by pushing forward “untainted faces”. The SP has also stopped calling ministers to conferences at the party headquarters here. The reason is that with complaints galore against ministers, their presence could invite the wrath of the party cadre, who have been trying to keep the SP flag flying high. During the last two months, the chief minister has summoned frontal wings’ conference three times. As the chief minister prepares for the electoral battle for survival, the ministers and MLAs luxurious lifestyle has turned out to be a bane for the party.

{{/usCountry}}There is a feeling in the party that in order to pursue their vested interests, the senior leaders largely ignored the youth wings in the districts, which is now creating problems. While desperate moves are on to plug loopholes in the organisation, the leadership is of the view that only the youth wings could steer the party out of the crisis.
Also, slackness on the part of senior leaders has caused concern in the party. It is for this reason that the chief minister has taken upon himself to have direct interaction with the grass root level workers.
Despite the spectre of anti-incumbency factor, the father-son duo (Yadav and son Akhilesh) continue to be best bet for the party.
