Mulayam Singh Yadav has chosen Chief Minister's post over becoming Member of Parliament and would resign from Lok Sabha to remain in the top post in Uttar Pradesh, according to Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh.
"He will not resign from the Chief Minister's post. He will resign from Lok Sabha," Singh told reporters on Wednesday.
"He cannot continue to be at both the places," he added.
Yadav emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha elections from his home constituency Mainpuri, trouncing his nearest BSP rival by over three lakh votes.
Asked whether SP support to Congress at Centre was reciprocity as the Uttar Pradesh government was dependent on the former's support, he said "No. Let them withdraw support if they want to."
Singh said Congress continues to be its arch rival in Uttar Pradesh along with BJP and BSP. The ground reality for the Left parties in Kerala, West Bengal and Tripura is also similar to our situation, he added.
