Shimla Police on Monday said the man was wanted in a murder case in Durg district of Chattisgarh.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Shimla district, RM Sharma said, “Sudheesh Singh, 28, who was accused of murdering and kidnapping Avinash Ramteke (a doctor) and his girlfriend, Devi Singh, 32, were found unconscious in Hotel Flora in the Lakkar Bazaar area of the city around midnight of Sunday.

They were immediately taken to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital by the hotel staff, where the man was declared brought dead at 2 am. The woman died on Monday morning in the hospital”.

The SSP said according to the preliminary investigations into the case, Sudheesh, was private secretary to Kurud legislator, Lekram Sahu and had been absconding in the murder case from first week of June.

Durg and Dhamtari districts police of Chattishgarh were jointly conducting the murder probe in which Sudheesh was wanted.

As per information provided by Durg police to the Shimla SSP office, Sudheesh and his girl friend, Devi, was known to Avinash and he allegedly committed the murder of Avinash in revenge as the marriage of Devi and Avinash was finalised by their families.

Police has recovered two suicide notes from the hotel room where they had been staying since June 19.

“In one of the suicide notes, Sudheesh claimed that ‘I am solely responsible for the murder of Avinash’ while in the second note, he said: ‘We are committing the suicide on our own and no body is responsible for this act’. Both the handwritten notes were in Hindi,” said the SSP.

Hotel staff informed the police that the couple had made entry in hotel register as husband and wife.

According to the staff, they came to know about the incidence when the girl friend of the murder accused, who was in little consciousness, requested the staff to immediately bring her “husband” to hospital as they both had had consumed poison.

Police has also established that both had come from Manali after staying there for few days.

“Relatives of the couple have been informed about the crime and probably in a day or two the dead bodies would be handed over to them,” the SSP said.
