The Left have attacked the UPA government of bartering India's foreign policy by signing the nuclear deal with the US.
The BJP, too, opposed the deal, saying that it limited India's nuclear capability.
Participating in a special discussion on the issue, CPI's CK Chandrappan said that it was an "unequal" treaty and would take India to the "stable of US global strategy of containing China and Russia".
He alleged that Centre has bartered the country's independent foreign policy for a "little" nuclear energy and arms which would instigate an arms race.
The CPI member said that US has remained silent on the issue of India's seat in the UN Security Council while going in for the deal as it wanted an ally in New Delhi for its "destabilising politics" of change in regimes which Washington does not like.
Claiming that the US has destabilised 100 regimes in its backyard of South America, he wanted to know whether India agreed with the concerns expressed by the US President on Iran.
