Political parties, civil society organisations, tribal councils and churches in Nagaland have appealed to warring underground groups to stop the senseless acts of violence and give peace a chance in the state.
The powerful Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) expressed serious concern over the escalation of killings by the groups and urged them to sort out differences through dialogue to arrive at a consensus.
NBCC in a statement on Saturday said the Church not only represented the body of Christ, but also all Nagas who genuinely believed in working for their rightful place in the region through peaceful means, dialogue and consensus.
After assassination of senior NSCN (K) functionary Ngampang Konyak in Mon town last week, in an act of revenge, the group attacked hideouts of its rival NSCN (I-M) in different parts of the state, killing two, injuring one and abducting three.
The apex tribal council Naga Hoho also condemned the fatricidal killings and said at this crucial juncture of the Naga political struggle bloodshed and tears had no place and all should strive for Naga unity.
