IF SUMMER comes, can coolers be far behind? The answer lies on the one-kilometer stretch that?s called Nai Sadak and connects the city to the railway station. The area virtually converts into a huge ?cooler joint? with the onset of summer. Though the cooler industry is also spread over other city areas like Kidwai Nagar, P Road and Parade, the Nai Sadak cooler manufacturers continue to dominate the market. Though the cooler industry is also spread over other city areas like Kidwai Nagar, P Road and Parade, the Nai Sadak cooler manufacturers continue to dominate the market. Apart from this, Nai Sadak traders have made their presence felt in the adjoining districts of Kanpur Dehat, Unnao, Fathepur and Kannauj.

The specialty of coolers manufactured at Nai Sadak is that they are cost-effective, portable and light on weight. The manufacturers also make these coolers as per the requirement of their customers. Depending on their size, the coolers are priced between Rs 1200 to Rs 4000.

The cooler business is mainly seasonal, but for many in the business it has been passed down the generations.

One such trader Iftekar Hussain said nearly 25 years ago his father had started manufacturing coolers with wooden bodies. They used to be sold for Rs 150 to Rs 200. Most wooden body coolers had standard size and perished fast.
