THE FOURTH national sports festival Spardha-2006 was inaugurated today at Prestige Institute of Management and Research (PIMR), Indore. Dr MI Quraishi, Director and Dean, Department of Physical Education, DAVV, Indore was the chief guest of the function.
PIMR Director Dr Upinder Dhar welcomed the guests and the participants. In his welcome speech, Dhar said that Spardha is a platform given to budding managers where they can participate in various events and which gives rise to healthy competition among them.
Besides studies, students are also required to acquire other skills for their physical well being. One needs to take care of physical and mental health and sports is the primary way of achieving this.
Dr Quraishi in his address said that success comes when you manage things properly. Sport is a discipline which can help in managing everything. Participation in sports brings radical change in students’ personality, attitude and behaviour.
He congratulated the institute for organising such festivals where participants from all over the country come together and urged students to become good friends and share their experiences during the festival. Sixty-one students from nine renowned institutions across the country are participating in the festival.
On the first day of the festival, quarter-finals of various events such as badminton, carrom, chess and table tennis were organised. The semi-finals and finals of these events will be held tomorrow.
