Politicians cannot throw their weight around any more — at least, when they use private choppers to connect with voters.

The directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) has directed chopper operators not tolerate any ‘high-handedness’ from politicians.

Following the air crash that killed Andhra Pradesh chief minister YSR Reddy earlier this month, vigilance on safety violations by flights carrying VIPs has increased.

“As per the DGCA briefing, we have asked political parties to submit a printed itinerary. We will not entertain any last-minute change,” said Arun Lohiya, Chief Executive Officer, Bafna Air, a Mumbai-based private charter company.
