Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday attacked the prime minister for allegedly not giving him appointment till date to justify the demand for according a special status to the state.
It was due to the central government's disinterest that the state's specific demand has been still in limbo since 2006, Kumar said in an election rally here in East Champaran district.
The Centre had also ignored the state government's demand to make available foodgrains to Bihar for distribution among the poor though tonnes of cereals have been rotting in godowns over the years, Kumar alleged.
He accused the UPA government at the Centre of having a 'step-motherly' attitude towards Bihar as it had 'ignored' its distress call for funds for rehabilitation and relief for lakhs of flood-hit people of Koshi region in 2008.
While special assistance was given in the cases of Gujarat earth quake (2001), tsunami in Tamil Nadu (2005), Mumbai floods (2007) and hurricane Aila in West Bengal (2009), it was not done in Bihar following the worst ever flood in the state, the chief minister said.
Stating that he was seeking a second term to complete his unfinished work, he expressed hope that Bihar would definitely become a developed state by 2015 if he was elected to power.
