NLFT militant killed in Tripura encounter

A National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) insurgent was killed in an encounter with security forces at Naitongcherra in Dhadai district.

An insurgent of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) was killed in an encounter with security forces at Naitongcherra in Dhadai district, police said on Thursday.

Acting on a specific information, a joint team of police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) launched a special operation at Naitongcherra on Wednesday night and was fired upon by the ultras when they reached their temporary hideout.

The forces also retaliated by opening fire and following a 15-minute long encounter, the ultras managed to escape from the scene.

Later, a bullet riddled body of an insurgent was recovered by the jawans, which was identified as that of Jaipal Tripura (30), a hardcore militant, the police said.
