Stating that all cases of sexual assaults need to be dealt in the same manner, BJP vice-president Smriti Irani said there should be no discrimination while dealing with cases to ensure justice is delivered to women.

“There is no fear of law as people think they can get away with anything. A 5-year-old girl was raped and her father was given Rs 2,000 by a policeman to hush up the matter. Whether it is an editor, a judge or a person living in a slum, same parameters have to be applied and it is only then justice will be done,” said Irani.

She further said that once her party comes to power in 2014, it will ensure that the existing laws to safeguard women are implemented in a stringent manner.

“We have one of the best laws in the country (for ensuring safety of women) but lack of funds has meant poor implementation, making it difficult for women to get justice. We will ensure sufficient funds are available to implement the existing laws once we come to power next year,” she added.

“As a Parliamentarian while I live in Delhi, my children stay in Mumbai. But it is me who decides what magazines are delivered at my house in Mumbai, the movies my children watch. Essentially the parents have to do their bit too. Parenting is crucial,” she added.

Talking about an ideal – well near ideal scenario, the actor-turned politician said: “If you ask any woman want she wants the only reply will be– she just wants to live. There is nothing else that the women want. How will men feel if they are told by their mothers when they step out of their homes to be careful, or if she asks them sambhal kar chalna bahar?”
