‘No party booths within 200m of polling stations’

The State Election Commission (SEC), in a letter, has restricted all candidates from setting up booths within 200 metres of the polling stations.

In a letter issued by the commission, it has said that strict action will be taken against those who will not follow the rules.

Most parties set up booths near polling stations and give out details of voters of their area. They distribute slips informing voters of which room they need to go to.

The commission has said that candidates can only display one banner of their name, party and the election symbol.

“Even if more than one polling station has been set up at a single location, there can be only one booth of a particular candidate. And, if any political party or the candidate does not follow the instructions, immediate action will be taken by the returning officer,” said a senior Delhi Commission official.

The commission has also specified the number of tables and chairs to be used at the polling booth.

As per the instruction, only one table and two chairs will be provided at each booth with an umbrella.

Delhiites will vote for three corporations — north, east and south on April 15.

This year, the new formed corporation has 50% seats reserved for women councillors.
