For nearly a year, the state-run civil hospital here has been functioning without a 24-hour medical store. Citing losses early this year, the administration had shut the previous store, run by the District Red Cross Society.

"We were allowed to keep medicines that were distributed by the hospital free of cost. So, we ran into losses," said Pradeep Kumar, secretary, Red Cross.
However, visitors at the facility don't seem convinced. Jugal Kishore, an attendant at the hospital, said, "If we need medicines at night or even a pack of glucose, we are left in the lurch."
Taking note of the issue, deputy commissioner PC Meena said, "If residents feel there is a need, we would call a meeting and reconsider the decision."
