In a setback to medical officers of Haryana Civil Medical Services (HCMS), holding MBBS degrees from recognised institutions and desirous of pursuing higher studies, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday said they cannot claim weightage of 10 marks for admission to MD/MS/MDS/PG diploma courses in Pt. BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak.
A vacation bench of justices Hemant Gupta and Ritu Bahri gave this verdict, setting aside the court’s ruling on May 24.
Some doctors, selected under the HCMS category, said after the May 24 order the university had started the counselling process and feared they might lose seniority due to this.
The university told the court that the weightage was meant only for those who compete on open seats. It was further contended that the state government officers could not be differentiated within the same category. If a candidate had acquired MBBS degree from some other university and was part of the HCMS cadre, he could not be discriminated vis-à-vis candidates under HCMS category. HTC
