THE NURSERY Act will soon be implemented in the State to remove the lacunae in present system of running nurseries, Agriculture Minister Choudhary Chandrabhan Singh announced on Saturday.
He said this while speaking at the inauguration of the 26th all-India rose show at the Rose Garden. It has been jointly organised by the Madhya Pradesh Rose Society and the National Horticulture Board.
The government has decided to promulgate the Act so that irregularities carried out by nursery owners could be prevented, the minister said. He said there is lot of scope for horticulture in Madhya Pradesh and the present 6.5 hectares land under it would be doubled by the year 2012.
Expressing concern over the agriculture scenario in the State that led to import of wheat, the minister said in such situation crops that give major production at low cost is best.
In this direction, horticulture is useful. He also called for efforts to promote marketing and processing of rose products. The 26th Rose Show has seen large participation from over 90 government and private institutes. Also, 80 commercial farmers along with 450 individual participants are attending the proceedings. Total entries in the show are about 6,000.
Secretary of the Horticulture and Food Processing Department, J S Kansotia said the objective of the exhibition is to encourage people to grow roses so that it could be given a commercial form. On the occasion, the Madhya Pradesh Rose Society’s website was launched while Dr Sadhna Gangarde’s book Gulaab was also released.

Governor Dr Balram Jakhar would be the chief guest at the concluding function at 5.30 pm on Sunday.
