On Delhi’s day of shame, minor girl and woman raped

A woman and a minor girl were allegedly raped in the Capital on Monday, December 16, while the entire city was paying tributes to the 23-year-old braveheart whose gang rape and subsequent death stirred a nationwide debate on women’s safety and rape laws in the country.

A woman and a minor girl were allegedly raped in the Capital on Monday, December 16, while the entire city was paying tributes to the 23-year-old braveheart whose gang-rape and subsequent death stirred a nationwide debate on women’s safety and rape laws in the country.

On December 16, the central Police Control Room (PCR) received a 37 calls from women in distress. The women’s helpline number 1091 received three calls.

Of the total calls, four were related to rape while nine calls were regarding eve-teasing and outraging the modesty of women. Out of the four rape calls, two were converted into FIRs after formal complaints were received from the victims. The police were still probing the other two calls and verifying the allegations.

The first case of rape was reported from south Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur. A 25-year-old woman accused her husband’s friend of allegedly raping her in the presence of her husband, with his consent.

The woman in her complaint has alleged that her husband had called her to a nearby park to sort out their personal issues.

Police have also picked up the alleged rape accused but he wasn’t placed under arrest till Tuesday evening. The woman’s husband was also being questioned, the police said.

The second case of rape took place in east Delhi’s Jagatpuri. An 11-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour on Monday. The incident came to light around 10pm when the girl’s family made a call to the police control room (PCR). On the basis of the complaint filed by the girl’s family, a case of rape was registered against one Himanshu, who was taken into custody for interrogation.

Meanwhile, two girls, aged around 16 years, were allegedly kidnapped from outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri after they left their homes for tuition classes in the locality.

Police said the girls left for tuition classes in the evening but did not return till late in the night. Their family members lodged missing persons’ complaints after they failed to trace the girls.
